Hypnosis - Safe & Effective!

What is Hypnosis?

Modern hypnosis was sanctioned by the AMA in 1958, since then it has been used by millions of women. Benefits include dropping unwanted habits such as smoking and nail biting, confidence in public speaking, enhancing creativity, enriching relationships, getting and staying trim and fit, forgiveness, eliminating excessive fears and worries, comfortable visits to the dentist, enhanced athletic performance, motivation, and more.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind characterized by inward focus and suggestibility. You have already experienced this state many times-for example, when you were absorbed in a task, driving or doing something repetitive.

Contrary to popular belief, your conscious mind is awake and aware during hypnosis. But it steps aside, allowing your subconscious mind to also be accessed.

Dr. David Spiegel, professor and associate chair of psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine says:

"One of the interesting ironies of hypnosis is that old fantasy that it takes away control. It's actually a way of enhancing people's control, of teaching them how to control aspects of their body's function and sensation that they thought they couldn't."

Through modern technology we can see how guided imagery can have a direct effect on both the nervous and endocrine systems, ultimately producing changes in the immune system and other body functions. Brain scans have verified that imagining something and actually experiencing it produce the same activity in the brain.

Why is this so important when you want to make changes?

Because the subconscious mind is where permanent memory resides and lasting changes are made. . If you believe consciously or subconsciously that you can't do or have what you want, all the good intentions or willpower in the world won't make any difference. In hypnosis, your subconscious mind will accept positive suggestions. These suggestions then become new beliefs that motivate you to make desired changes easily and joyfully.

Kate* wanted to shed the extra pounds she'd put on in the past 10 years. Michelle loved her job - except for the presentations that she was required to give - just thinking about them made her feel sick and she was up most of the night before a presentation worrying. Disgusted with his smoking habit, Jim wanted to quit once and for all. Blake was expecting her second child and wanted to have a positive birth experience this time. After a minor accident, Diana became increasingly fearful of driving or riding in a car. At the age of 45 Mary felt like her world was turned upside down as she experienced midlife changes. The dentist said that Mike's troublesome grinding of his teeth at night was due to stress.

These men and woman of different ages with different challenges have something in common - they used hypnosis to create positive lasting change.

Hypnosis is actually a naturally occurring state of mind, one that you've already experienced many times. It happens spontaneously when you daydream. It happens when you've been driving for awhile and suddenly realize you've missed your usual turnoff -- the "highway hypnosis" familiar to most of us.

    Who uses hypnosis?

Celebrities, sports figures, doctors and dentists-and ordinary people just like you. People who want help in getting rid of bad habits or addictions, relief from painful emotions, managing chronic pain and other health issues, and improving performance use hypnosis.

What's different about the hypnotherapy we offer?

The approach we use is called "5-PATH," which refers to the process used over the course of sessions with a client. 5-Path hypnosis is a client-centered approach using an advanced, modern technique for creating change. 5-PATH hypnotherapy incorporates the positive suggestions (benefits, changes) that clients say they want in their life as well getting to the root cause of an issue. What makes 5-PATH so effective is that it goes beyond direct suggestion to remove root causes. It uncovers and clears old, negative programming and assists clients in forgiving others and themselves.

    How many sessions are recommended?

Depending upon the issue, desired gains can be achieved with 4-7 sessions, with 5 being the average number. Generally speaking, sessions are scheduled about a week apart.

    What's a hypnosis session like?

The first session with the hypnotherapist is usually about 2 hours long. Subsequent sessions are about one and a half hours long. At the first session, you will learn about hypnosis. Your hypnotherapist will help you to understand how hypnosis works and why hypnosis is safe and natural. Learning a little about hypnosis at the start helps to clear up misperceptions and misunderstandings that might keep you from having a successful experience with hypnosis. It has been demonstrated that when people know more about hypnosis they tend to do better in the hypnotherapeutic process. After all your questions about hypnosis have been answered, then and only then will you be guided into a state of hypnotic relaxation, where you will begin the process that will help you to rapidly achieve your desired results. After you emerge from hypnosis, you will spend some time talking about your experience.

    Lasting Positive Change

Now, using modern techniques, anyone of normal or higher intelligence can be hypnotized to intentionally create change like the women above so successfully did. All of these people had tried a number of approaches for their problems prior to hypnosis, but had poor or only short-lived results. Why didn't these other efforts work for them?

A great analogy is that problems are like a weed in your lawn. Mowing the lawn temporarily cuts down the problem and is comparable to positive affirmations, going on a diet, or New Year's resolutions. If the roots of the problem are very shallow then the "mowing the lawn" approach might very well result in lasting change. If the roots go deep, however, a deeper approach is necessary or the problem will likely reoccur.

    5PATH Hypnosis

One of the most advanced techniques for helping men and women to quickly and permanently uproot problems is called 5-PATH hypnosis. 5PATH refers to a 5-phase approach to change. That change must be a desired change because hypnosis is a consensual process and no one can make you do things that are outside of your desired goals or moral parameters.

Our clients respond so well to the 5-PATH hypnosis approach because it is tailored to address individual needs and goals, rather than a cookie cutter method that is one-size-fits-some. Also, because a woman's subconscious is actively engaged in the process, it is very quick and therefore inexpensive compared to other alternatives as indicated in these comments: "I've tried lots of things (including 4 years of therapy, which was helpful but the positive effects seemed to fade), none was as effective and fast as 5-PATH. This process helped me move past old blocks that kept standing in my way. I was so tired of being stuck. Now I look at things from a whole new perspective, and I am moving forward with my life"

Another added benefit from 5PATH hypnosis is that the changes seem to unfold over time. As these women said, "It was dramatic, the change. It's still affecting my life. I am amazed and pleasantly surprised by the new positive changes that are appearing. It has been almost a year since I completed 5PATH."

    Hypnosis Increases Energy and Motivation

Repeating old negative patterns can hold a woman back from moving ahead in life.

This is why sometimes, despite the best intentions, desired positive change fails to take place or, at best, last. This process allows a woman to release unwanted patterns. As a result, clients have reported an incredible sense of freedom and renewed motivation and energy from experiencing 5PATH hypnosis.

    Letting Go

Old hurts, too, can hold us in the past. Is there someone in your life that you wish you could forgive? Would you like to forgive and be done with the burden of an old offense once and for all? Forgiveness of others and oneself as well as letting go of guilt can be achieved through hypnosis.

When it is no longer necessary to carry old baggage, energy that was previously locked up in past situations is now available for creativity, business, family, and enjoyment of life.

    Hypnosis and Weight Release

Many people find that willpower simply isn't enough. Research has compared the effectiveness of dieting with or without hypnosis. Long-term follow-up shows that lost weight is more likely to stay off with hypnosis than with diet alone (Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985). Mean weight loss over time was more than twice as much in hypnosis groups and analysis showed that the benefits of hypnosis increased over time (Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996). These studies are important because they involved follow-up, unlike many popular diets of questionable safely, the weight tended to stay off with hypnosis. Dateline recently compared several different diet programs, then interviewed people after following one of the programs for 3 months. The hypnosis user was the happiest, said is was easy, loved to get to the gym to work out (previously hated exercise), just naturally wanted to eat healthier foods, felt fuller sooner and lost 40 lbs. in 3 months without a diet regimen per se.

    Real Losers!

These comments reflect the experiences of some women who have successfully shed unwanted pounds in a healthy way with hypnosis. "I eat less, I'm able to just have a taste of something sweet and leave the rest. I also find that I'm more patient with my children. Things that used to make me just blow up in anger don't seem to bother me anymore." " My clothes are fitting better. My friends are beginning to notice!" "I'm amazed! I'm eating less, I'm no longer reaching for extra food once I've satisfied my hunger, and my clothes are getting looser!" "Even over the holidays I didn't overdo it. It's been very easy to throw out the extra treats we don't want around." "I continue to amaze myself! I've been able to pass up sweets at the office where before I would have had my share and plenty more. It feels really 'different' this time."

    Hypnosis and Smoking/Tobacco Cessation

The Tobacco Cessation program used at Cullen Hypnosis has achieved a 95% client success rate . Using the "cold turkey" method you experience a daily effort to remain smoke free. Fighting a rage inside that seems to dominate your very being from the moment you awaken until you go to bed.

Cold Turkey is not YOUR answer!

Most tobacco users find that smoking cessation is the hardest thing that they have ever attempted to accomplish. A good hypnosis program will help you to, first of all, be certain that you are ready to quit for the right reasons (i.e., because you want to do it, not because someone else wants you to). If you are not ready, and you wish to be, the program will include readiness preparation. Next, you set a quit date. Most clients find that the desire to smoke is gone or greatly diminished with even the very first hypnosis session. Suggestions are given in hypnosis to support an ongoing tobacco-free life.

Our clients find that hypnosis gives them a way to ease the struggle of quitting and become free from tobacco for good. "After trying everything from patches to gum, etc., I always felt out of control in my smoking habit. Now, after hypnosis, there's a whole new different feeling, instead of the feeling of having to suffer to quit. I feel a sense of a new challenge to accomplish a goal and look forward to each new day."

    Hypnosis for Enhanced Sensuality

There was nothing physically wrong, and she was happily married, but "Sally" just didn't have much sexual desire nothing like she used to have. Whether it was the stress of her busy life, or the lack of confidence that she had developed, she didn't know. So, after reading an article on hypnosis, she decided to find out more about it. Having done so, she decided to give it a try. What could she lose? And moreover, what if it worked, wouldn't that be great for her and her husband?

Now Sally and her husband are thanking the hypnotherapist. Sally found that she was able to reclaim her sensuality and enjoy sex again. An important thing for Sally was the confidentiality of the sessions and the respect and professionalism of her hypnotherapist.

    Hypnosis and Menopause

Physical and emotional shifts can present a stiff challenge for some women during peri-menopause. At midlife, women who are mothers often have challenges when their children are seesawing between being independent adults and their more familiar roles as children. Also, a woman's parents might be requiring more attention due to problems related to aging.

The reliable natural cycling of menstruation is now irregular or complete and there can be uncomfortable effects of hormonal changes. Being stressed will make the discomfort and frustrations worse. Many women have found hypnosis to be a very effective tool in evening out some of the roller coaster highs and lows of peri-menopause, including hot flashes. A renewed perspective on life and its changes results in more energy and a reclamation of the joy and excitement of life. "...It was a transformative, life-changing experience." said one midlife client.

Hypnosis for Better Performance: Sports, Sales and More

Did you know that public speaking is more frightening to most people than a jail sentence? Many clients have found hypnosis to be an effective and quick way to get over fears and experience confidence in front of groups. Salespeople, promoters, executives, golfers, tennis stars, and recreational athletes have all found hypnosis to be effective in overcoming blocks and improving performance.
